Always Happy To Answer Questions
Here are some of the more frequent ones.
What prompted you to write a book where human trafficking is such a strong theme?
After college I was lucky enough to travel to South East Asia and the things I saw permanently impacted me. I had seen poverty before in Nicaragua where the rural areas had no running water or electricity and ten family members slept in a one room log cabin. But in places like Thailand and Cambodia I saw something else; human trafficking. I saw beautiful girls with dead eyes and I needed to tell the world about it in my own way.
When did you get involved in human rights causes?
Fabulous question! I have been involved in Human Rights causes since high school. I led my school's SAVE DARFUR advocacy club and organized a city wide rally for teens around Houston to raise funds for aid and show our support. After doing research, I realized that Darfur was just one example of the many human rights violations going on around the world. After high school I spent a year abroad volunteering in Israel with Arab and Israeli children. I attended college in NYC where it became almost too easy to get involved. (Notice I say almost.) I staffed my university's Model United Nations Program for high schoolers and served on a humanitarian mission to Nicaragua. I have been trying to stay active ever since.
Hi! I follow all of your FF stories but I can't seem to find the one with Carina. Did it move?
Thanks for following! The answer to your question is that I have taken it down to be edited and extended into a full length novel! The plan is to get it published. I will keep you updated to the progress of the book as it battles through the editing and query process, and of course, keep checking the blog for updates!
I really loved The Luxury Run sample chapter! Can I read more??
Thanks so much! For right now I'm really only giving out additional material to agents and publishers but I will definitly keep you updated when that changes! In the meantime I have a couple of short stories coming down the pipe that I'll be posting on the blog for you soon. Keep your eyes peeled!
You're always posting pics of your foster kitties, how can I get involved?
Every shelter is a little different but they all have one thing in common: they want and need help. I've fostered in both NYC and Houston and I can tell you that most places will want to meet you and have you go through a training course before they send home pups and kittens with you. Your local shelter or neighborhood Petsmart should have plenty of information for you.
I love your stories!! What are you working on now?
I am working on a few things! I am busy writing the sequel to the Dark Luxury and that is definitly taking up a lot of my time but whenever I need a change of pace I switch over to some short stories that I'll hopefully post for everyone by the end of summer!
You blog is really inspiring! Where do you get your posts from?
As I'm sure you have realized by now, I am pretty opinionated and therefore advocate for quite a few things on the blog. Here are some of the places I have talked about in the past and happen to LOVE and inspire me to share with all of you.
In General: I'm a big fan of UPWORTHY (.COM) they always have awesome videos that explain what's going on around the world quickly and in a way that's easy to understand.
Human Trafficking: THE POLARIS PROJECT and MADE IN A FREE WORLD are both charities I love and do a great job of letting you know what you can do to minimize human trafficking around the globe.
Human Rights in General: HUMAN RIGHTS WATCH (.ORG) - It's a really great way to get an idea as to what is going on around the world.
Animal Rights: THE INTERNATIONAL HUMANE SOCIETY is one I personally subscribe to.
Let your voice be heard: CHANGE.ORG and AVAAZ.ORG are great sites that allow people to band together and have their voices be heard. Petitions mostly but we are powerful when we stand united for a cause.
